I ViniPinot Grigio

Crystal clear perfumes, a beautiful concentration of flavours and a good sourness in its taste characterizes the Maso Bergamini Pinot Grigio.

Our grapes are cultivated using the guyot system and are grown at the unusual altitude for Pinot Grigio of 550 metres. This mountain Pinot Grigio distinguishes itself, having obtained ICEA certification for wines produced solely from organic grapes.

What does the term organic grapes actually mean? Organic grapes are produced from vineyards where no pesticides or plant protection products are used in the process. For anti-fungal protection against grape and vine mildew Maso Bergamini only use natural sulphur and copper compounds if required. The copper element is used only up to a maximum of 6 kg per hectare each year, which ensures minimum exposure. As a defence against the harvest mite Maso Bergamini use an organic technique to sexually confuse the pest by defusing mite pheromones amongst the crop. As an organic wine the use of weed killers is forbidden, so to control the weeds we remove all weeds by hand. Chemical fertilisers are not allow on organic products, so if necessary we only use traditional manure as a fertiliser.

All of these processes are ICEA certified (ICEA - Institute for the Certification of Ethics and Ambience - an institution recognised by the Italian Minister of Agriculture). The ICEA technicians check our organic (BIO) vineyard and analyse the leaves and grapes in ICEA authorised labs to reveal any possible residues of non-permitted plant protection products.

Only three years after the conversion of a vineyard to organic grape production, can the wine produced finally be labelled as Bio Organic.

Each year the wine producer gets authorisation from the ICEA to print a set number of labels marked as Bio for labelling the bottles of organic wine - these labels have a specific code that changes every year in order to make the bottles uniquely recognisable to ICEA quality controllers.
